Rhiannon Parker's Introduction
We have the honor of welcoming our guest, Rhiannon Parker, a 34-year-old Secondary School Physical Education Teacher.
Exercise, Health, and Fitness have always been a passion for her. Growing up, Rhiannon played representative Volleyball and Netball from a very young age, and she continues to participate in these sports at a competitive level. She cannot imagine a life without team sports.
At the age of 18, Rhiannon experienced a deeply traumatic event. She was gang raped by a group of 5 men after getting separated from her friends on a night out. This horrific experience left her feeling vulnerable, unsafe, and burdened with misplaced blame. Overwhelmed by fear, guilt, and shame, she kept her ordeal hidden from the world for two years. It took immense courage for Rhiannon to finally share her truth with her mother, in response to the heartbreaking question, "What is wrong with you?"
As a result of this trauma, Rhiannon developed complex PTSD, Chronic Anxiety, and Anorexia Nervosa. However, her journey toward healing and recovery began when she found the strength to seek help. Currently, she sees her psychologist weekly and her dietitian fortnightly. While she still faces the challenges associated with her diagnosis, Rhiannon has a strong support network comprising her circle of friends and her mental health corner in her team. She acknowledges the need for ongoing therapy and maintenance, recognizing that lifelong support is essential for her well-being and to become the best version of herself.
Join us as we delve deeper into Rhiannon's story, exploring her resilience, her ongoing healing process, and the lessons she has learned along the way. Through her experiences, Rhiannon demonstrates the power of seeking help, the importance of community, and the determination to overcome adversity.
