Co-author of the RISING AFTER ABUSE anthology, Carolyn's story is found in chapter #8
Today, we're thrilled to welcome the incredible Carolyn Parker, aka the Overcoming Queen, as she shares her powerful journey of escaping abuse and rebuilding her self-belief. Listen in as Carolyn opens up about her loving upbringing, the mental health challenges her family faced, and how these experiences led her down a path of seeking escape, ultimately landing her in two different toxic relationships. Carolyn reveals how her own mental health crisis and the discovery of personal development and growth mindset played a pivotal role in her healing process.
Through the power of affirmations and recognizing her self-limiting beliefs, Carolyn was able to free herself from the chains of abuse. Join us for this inspiring conversation as Carolyn shares her story of overcoming adversity and how she's now using her experiences to help others find hope and healing. Make sure to purchase and read her memoir named "From a Place Called Shame," available everywhere books are sold, as she turns her past trials and taboos into talking points for the present, offering hope for the future.
Carolyn's short bio
Carolyn Parker, also known as The Overcoming Queen, is a survivor of domestic abuse who is now a heart-led author, personal development advocate, and founder of Restoring Self-Belief. Her journey began in 2002 when she fell into a toxic relationship with a younger man during a mental health crisis. Unaware of the signs of domestic abuse, Carolyn did not recognize the progressive coercive control she was experiencing until it escalated to a life-threatening point. After several attempts to leave, she finally ended the relationship in 2005.
In 2006, Carolyn met her second abuser. Though the pattern of abuse was different, there was still an undercurrent of control. It wasn't until 2013 that she realized things were not going to improve and instructed him to leave. Despite her challenges, Carolyn qualified as a chartered physiotherapist in 1980 and worked in several NHS hospitals before and between having her two daughters. After suffering a nervous breakdown, she established a private care support business as a sole trader in 2011, which she still runs today.
Carolyn's life changed in 2019 when she discovered the power of personal development and a growth mindset. She founded Restoring Self Belief to share these tools and strategies with a broader audience through social media and personal coaching. When COVID-19 lockdowns began in 2020, Carolyn took the opportunity to write a chapter in a collaborative book and record a podcast episode about her journey, leading her to discover a hidden talent for heart-led writing. She has since contributed to other books, including Beautifully Broken, which launched in October 2022.
Carolyn's debut memoir, From a Place Called Shame, was released in November 2022.
Through her work, Carolyn's mission is to turn the trials and taboos of her past into talking points that give others hope for the future. She aims to write and speak about these often-avoided topics to increase awareness, understanding, and acceptance of those who often suffer in silence. With her personal coaching and heart-led writing, Carolyn inspires others to overcome their own challenges and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Jasmin's Attaché
Jasmin's Attaché –a Nurse's tool bag specifically designed to serve a purpose for my fellow Nursing colleagues. It is more than a container to store their tools; it's a vessel to help reduce their anxiety, improve patient care, and save time by providing essential resources quickly.
Here are five reasons why nurses might need to have their #jasminsattache tool bag:
Organization: A tool bag provides a convenient and organized way for nurses to store and transport their essential equipment and supplies, such as stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and pens.
Durability: Nurses work in demanding environments and need equipment that can withstand the wear and tear of daily use. A high-quality tool bag is made of durable materials and is built to last.
Convenience: Nurses are often on the move and need a tool bag that is lightweight, compact, and easy to carry. A tool bag that is designed with multiple pockets and compartments helps to keep equipment and supplies organized and within easy reach.
Professionalism: A tool bag allows nurses to present a professional image, as it is designed to keep their equipment and supplies in a neat and organized manner.
Time savings: By having all of their equipment and supplies in one convenient location, nurses can save time and be more efficient in their work.

Transcending Your Fears to Rise Above and Beyond: A Warrior’s Journey with Cynthia Concordia
What if you were trapped in an abusive relationship for 23 years, and the fear of judgment and rejection kept you from finding your way out? How would you rise above and reclaim your life? On this powerful episode of Real Talk, Real Women, Breaking the Silence Around Abuse, I am honored to speak with Cynthia Encinas Concordia. Cynthia bravely shares her story of transcending fear and finding a path to healing, ultimately discovering her purpose in helping others break free from their own limitations.
Cynthia's journey is not only about overcoming an abusive relationship but also about navigating the cultural complexities of addressing domestic violence in the US and the Philippines. We explore how a lack of legal protection for women and children in the Philippines, as well as the emotional impact of domestic abuse, contributed to her struggles. Cynthia also shares how her work with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank played a crucial role in helping her make a pivotal shift in her life.
Tune in as Cynthia shares her wisdom on forgiveness and how it has allowed her to become the person she is today. As the founder and CEO of Dream to Rise LLC, a life coach, and the author of My Journey into Becoming, her mission is to spread sunshine, peace, kindness, compassion, and love. Be inspired by her incredible journey and learn how you too can overcome fear and rise above adversity.
Co-author of the RISING AFTER ABUSE anthology, Cynthia's story is found in chapter #4
Cynthia’s short introduction
Cynthia has been in an abusive relationship with her husband for 23 years. It was her fear that kept her in this relationship. She was afraid of what other people would say, afraid that she was not committed to her marriage vows, and afraid that she would be judged and rejected. However, after his two restraining orders, he died of a massive cardiac arrest.
Being cut off by his family because she was blamed for his death, Cynthia was trapped in her dark bubble for 6 years, living a miserable life because of fear. She made a shift so her children might experience and appreciate what life really is.
A graduate of De La Salle University with a bachelor’s degree in AB Psychology and a BSC in Business Management, she has worked for different companies and organizations, which made her realize the importance of human connection and knowledge sharing. The two international organizations, the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, widened her perspective on life. That’s the benefit of working with colleagues from different countries around the globe. Her dream comes true was her last 6 years before she retired as an HR Analyst at the World Bank HR department.
After she retired, she found something missing in her life and that was her purpose. She has discovered that her life experiences can truly help others, especially those who are stuck and afraid to go out of their comfort zone to make a change in their lives. She was in that situation, and she wants to inspire the abused women, most especially, that there is truly a light at the end of the tunnel and live the life they love. Given the remaining years of their life here on earth, there is still time to live life to the fullest and enjoy what life has to offer.
Cynthia Concordia is the Founder and CEO of Dream to Rise LLC which started in September 2020.
Cynthia’s vision is to spread sunshine and happiness to the people she meets so this may create a ripple effect.
She only wants to see peace, kindness, compassion, and love here on earth. Her passion to spread light paved the way for her to become a life coach, publish a book, “My Journey Into Becoming”, start her mastermind group, Dream to Rise Inner Circle, and launch her podcast “Dream To Rise Podcast”.
Cynthia helps women and men from 25-65 years of age who are struggling with their blockages and limiting beliefs that stop them from moving forward to manifest their dreams. Those who have gone through her program are now living their purpose and living the life they love. She just wants to share her message to the world that life is great!
Don’t waste your time doubting, worrying, and being afraid of what the future will offer us. You deserve to be happy.

S3E73 Emigrating to Canada to flee Domestic Violence and Start Over with Coach Cathy O.
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
Wednesday Feb 08, 2023
My name is Catherine Opondo - Coach Cathy O, and l facilitate healing circles that help women release trauma so they can go on to co-create lives that they are excited about living. I am a mum of five and a grandma of 2. I emigrated to Canada some four years ago, a move I made to save my life and seek peace.
How did l get here? You see, I was previously married for three decades - one that was the “best” or so I thought. Without the gory details, the marriage broke down and turned abusive in all aspects. It quickly became obvious that I had to fight for my life and flee. After weighing my options, I saw that leaving the dangerous situation behind would be my best option.I made my plans and left with my youngest children. I arrived in a foreign land, settled, and carried on with my life. I thought that l would be “safe.” I mean, l had left the dangerous situation behind, right? How wrong I was. I quickly realized that l was getting anxious and experiencing panic attacks with the same intensity, if not worse, as when l was in the “abusive situation.” Slowly, l started looking over my shoulder wondering if l was being followed, as had happened in the past. And it got worse from there.I realized that l had to do something about this as it was getting out of hand and slowly consuming my mind. There were days that l did not find value in getting out of bed. There were days when l did not have the strength to be a mom, and it was getting crazy. Anyone who saw me would have thought, “she has got it all together.” I must say that I masked it well.l had to do something about this. If I wanted to live and continue with my life. I was tired of acting like everything was ok. It was consuming me.So, l found the courage to work through the trauma and to heal it. My thinking at the time was “why did l have to do the hard work when “it was not my fault?”. The reality was that l had to do the hard work to move my life forward.
.There were days when l awoke upbeat and enthusiastic about life, and there were days that l wasn’t looking forward to the day at all.I had to calm the chatter in my head, and squash the labels that had been assigned to me and l had “graciously” accepted. It started with a desire to live my best life, then it graduated to taking action while scared as hell. The more action l took, the more l wanted to do it and the more l felt at ease. Some days were easy, some were not. But l was determined. I sought the help l needed and did the work that was required. Was it a pretty journey - Hell NO! Was it worth it - HELL YEAH!And it paid off.I now share the healing journey with those that have walked the same path and need support to get through it. Doing it alone is scary and daunting. Walking the path with someone who has done it makes it so much easier!Life is not a dress rehearsal - live your best life. Take the action to redesign your life.“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one single step” - Lao Tzu.“Feel the Fear, but Do it Anyway” - Susan Jeffers. If you are that person feeling stuck and unable to move forward, talk to me and we can walk this journey together. You do not have to do it alone.Best of the best,Coach Cathy O
